Highly Rated Charities are dropping behind – how to increase Charity Ratings

Charity ratings have become a fickle thing with highly rated charities holding the number one position today being side-stepped by new charities coming out of nowhere.

Organisations like Guidestar.org and Givespot.com show detailed non-profit charity ratings. Givespot.com has a detailed list called GiveSpot 100 list showing its top 100 charities. Other organisations like charitynavigator.org have charity check systems and a charity Top Ten list so that you look up a charity quickly. Guidestar.org is probably the biggest US charity directory offering an amazing array of charity information some free some at a cost. The Better Business Bureau , despite its name is also charity directory listing both business and non-profit organisations.

To increase charity rating as well as attract more funds the secret lies in a single word : attraction.

We are in an era where consumer power is real power. The media a few years ago could whip up a storm in a teacup at any time, but now with REAL connection from friend-to-friend, traditional media is becoming the second cousin to creating change. With the advent of close-nit social networks, companies like Starbucks can receive a massive onslaught of bad feeling in a matter of hours as social network sites and hubs like Twitter and Facebook run hot with messages – friend to friend.

Reading a newspaper article about a company like Starbucks being ‘naughty’ is one thing, but when you have several friends texting, emailing, Twittering and Skyping you about an issue, you listen and often follow.

People and businesses that are seen as ‘takers’ are often ‘crucified’ by public opinion. It is like a natural balancing act. But when a business is seen as a giver, people often cheer and support them and rarely criticism them.
